Thanks again to other Sketchup designers that basically did all the work of designing the bed frame/couch/storage. All I had to do was modify some of the dimensions to fit the transit.
All it took was adjusting some of the dimensions of some else's design. I made sure there was plenty of space for the electrical under the right side of the bed as well as grill shelf.
First step was build the base of the bed out of 2x4s.
You may notice all the electrical components are a lot more compact that the original design. The bed ended up being way too tall to use as a normal couch, so I had to scrunch everything down several inches. It was a pain, but it was worth it to be able to put my feet on the ground when sitting.
Lots and lots of sanding!
I added some white paneling to the bottom to cover the electrical and give it a nice finished look. Now for the mattress!
I bought a full-size 5"-thick foam mattress and cut it in two pieces for the couch back and seat using an electric knife (got the idea from another van builder). Worked like a charm.
Looking pretty good!
